Capital Area Christian Church

Connecting People to God

How do I Become a Partner/Member?

At Capital Area Christian Church, it is our belief that when someone becomes a Christian, they also become a member of the body of Christ (Romans 12:4; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 2:19, 3:6, 4:25; Colossians 3:15). This makes the new believer part of God’s worldwide family.  As such, we accept all those brothers and sisters in the Lord who come to be part of our congregation.

We also understand that in the early church local Christians joined together in congregations for fellowship, prayer, Bible study, worship, and service (Acts 2:42-47).  Although they did not own buildings which would have given them a specific local identity, they exhibited great commitment to one another as local bodies of believers who had their own leadership, finances, and congregational life much like the hundreds of Jewish synagogues throughout the world at the time.

At Capital Area we desire to recognize those Christians in our community who find this congregation to be a “place to call home.” These are people who have found CACC to be a church family where they feel comfortable with our mission, vision, philosophy of ministry, and basic doctrines.  As a result, they would like to commit to this congregation as the “home base” for their Christian growth.

If you are looking for a church home for partnership/membership, we suggest that you attend Capital Area for some time, attend a “Discover CACC” seminar led by our pastor, get to know some of our people, and learn about our ministry and teachings.  You are welcome to become an active part of any of our ministry teams and attend a Small Group Bible study fellowship.

To become a partner/member at Capital Area Christian Church, you must first be a Christian who has been baptized by immersion.  If you have never been immersed into Christ through baptism, please click here to download a Bible study guide about this important subject, and/or call the office (732-1882) to set up a time to study the subject together. When you have reached a decision to join the church, our pastor will ask you to repeat after him your confession of faith in Christ before the congregation. This is usually done at the invitation time after a Sunday morning sermon. The pastor will then present you to the congregation as a new partner/member. We realize that this is often somewhat uncomfortable for many people who are not accustomed to standing before groups of people, and we therefore make every effort to make the presentation as comfortable as possible. You will not be required to speak in any way beyond your confession of faith in Christ. As a new partner/member, we encourage you to take full advantage of the opportunities for growth and service in your new church home. Welcome to the CACC family!

The following list provides some guidelines for new partner/members about what the Bible teaches concerning each Christian’s involvement in the life of the church and the community. These are not “rules” for membership, but simply guidelines from the Bible about being a growing Christian.

  • Attend worship services regularly.  (Hebrews 10:19-25)
  • Participate in some form of Bible study, such as a Life Group Home Bible Study or a Sunday School Life Group.  Read and study the Bible personally on a regular basis as well.  (Acts 2:42; 2 Timothy 3:10-16; Psalm 119)
  • Use your gifts and talents to serve your church family and your community.  (Romans 12:1-8; 1 Corinthians 12; Ephesians 4:11-16; 1 Peter 4:10-11)
  • Financially support the ministries of the church.  (1 Corinthians 16:1-3; 2 Corinthians 8:1-5, 9:6-15)
  • Follow the example of the leaders of the church and recognize their authority in church matters.  (Hebrews 13:7, 17)
  • Constantly seek growth in your Christian life and the life of the congregation and therefore be open to change in your own life and the life of the church.  (Luke 9:57-62; Acts 2:42; John 15:1-17)
  • Share the Good News about Jesus Christ at every opportunity and promote growth of the church.  (Matthew 28:18-20; 1 Corinthians 9:19-27)
  • Seek to develop your family upon the guidelines of Christian character set forth in the Bible.  (Ephesians 5:21-6:4; Colossians 3:18-21; 1 Timothy 2:8-15; Titus 2:1-8; 1 Peter 3:1-8)
